Lemoine, the "diamond manufacturer," was sentenced, in default, to ten years' imprisonment, for fraud on Sir Julius Wernher, who Avas aAvarded £400 damages. Lemoine, a French engineer, was charged Avith obtaining a large sum of money from Sir Julius Wernher, of Wernher, Beit, and Co., on the faith of an allegation that he could manufacture diamonds. Lemoine Avas given a chance to prove Avhether there Avas anything in his process, but he absconded.
