STEEL TRUST.
ITS EXISTENCE CONFIRMED. By Telegraph.— Press Aseooiation.—Copyr.fht. (Received January 26, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, 25th January. Mr. Pepper, agent of the United States Department of Commerce and Labour, confirms the existence of a steel rail syndicate, including American, British, German, French, and Belgian mills, mutually sharing the world's trade by means of a subdivision of markets. It was stated some months ago by the Iron and Steel Trades Journal that an international steel trust has been formed, with a capital of £150,000,000. American, German, and Russian syndicates were said to be co-operating, and it was expected that great works would be started in the United Kingdom. Active operations by the United States Steel Corporation in buying up American coal and iron concerns followed shortly on the publication of this news.
