COLUMBIA PRIVATE HOTEL.

The latest up-to-date private hotel in Wellington is the Columbia, situated in Cuba-street extension, within easy reach of the principal places of amusement, railways, and wharves. The building is a large fireproof one of six storeys, and contains 75 bedrooms, smoking rooms, and separate reading rooms for ladies | and gentlemen. An extensive panoramic view of the city, the harbour, and the surrounding hills is to be obtained from j the garden roof. The hotel is built J according to the latest designs in architecture. A special feature has been made of an electric lift service to the roof, while on each floor are lavatories and bathrooms for the convenience of visitors and guests. The proprietors have followed an American idea in regard to the culinary department : the kitchen and staff rooms are located on the top storey, whence, it is claimed, will filter no odours of things cooking. Having regard to the 3vdden atmospheric changes so often experienced in Wellington, the owners have installed patent heaters in each room. Sirs.
