FOREIGN LEGION.

DOINGS OF A GERMAN BAND. FEONTIEE EAIDS. A PASSENGER TRAIN HELD UP. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright (Received December 17, 8.55 a.m.) MOROCCO, 16th December. After three months' service,, fifty Germans in the French Foreign Legion at Casablanca, Morocco, deserted with their arms. . They held up a passenger train bound for Oran, in Algeria, and then disappeared in the desert towards the Moorish frontier, one hundred miles distant. i All were captured except the ringleader, a, Bavarian ex-officer. It is believed he acted in concert with the German Desertion Agency in Casablanca. Like most Foreign Legions, the French auxiliaries in Morocco are composed of restless spirits from all countries, burning tor adventure, and impatient of restraint. In September two hundred of these' soldiers deserted, and trouble with some of the German members of the force involved France and Germany in a serious dispute. Paris papers alleged that the captured deserters accused the Germans of "egging" them on to desert. They declared that an agency for desertion and the fomenting of mischief has been in existence for some time in Casablanca.
