A special case between the Trustees of the Heath Estate and the Commissioner of Taxes was heard in Banco this .afternoon, before Mr. Justice Cooper. La-nd, it seemed, was sold under agreement and less than 10 per cent, was .paid by way of deposit. In September, 1907, the purchase was. completed, and in October, 1907, a taxing Act wa* passed varying the mode of assessing the interests of vendors and purchasers- under agreements. This Act imposed an additional graduated tax on owners, • and the question was: whether the vendor* were owners on the 31st March< ,and so liable to graduated tax. Mr. /H. D. Bell, K.C., appeared for the Commissioner of Taxes, Mr. Hislop and Mr. Johnston for the trustees. The case had not concluded wifen The Post went to press. On Saturday night John Ferguson, residing at 20, Martin-square, slipped inone of the city streets and fell heavily. His head struck the kerhing, and he was rendered unconscious.
