SAILING BACES.

SATURDAY'S RESULTS. Zephyr breezes prohibited fast sailing in the harbour, on Saturday afternoon. However, there resulted four different events, viz., second and fourth-class races for yachts, and a 16ft boat race, all under the auspices of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, and a dinghy handicap , sailed by the Thorndou Dinghy Sailing Club. In the second-class event, there were seven entrants, their handicaps being as follow : Syren scr, Mahina scr, Janet scr, Nancy Stair 15min, Taipari 15min, Viking 15min, Patronus 20mm. At the start Taipari got away before her time, and Viking and Patrouus both lost seven minutes. The lead was then assumed by Mahina, Syren, and Jauet, with Nancy Stair and Taipari in close company. At Korokoro Mahina. and Janet were in the lead, and a fine duel was witnessed between those two vessels on the run home. . When off Point Jerningham both were abreast. A little after Mahina drew slightly to the fore, but Janet, hoisting more sail, overtook her opponent and crossed the finishing line a mere 15sec in front. Syren was third, being 20min later than Janet. A five minutes' interval separated each — Syren from Taipari and the latter from "Nancy Stair, which came in fifth. On time allowance the placed boats were : First, Janet ; second, Mahina ; third, Taipai'i. The fourth-class competition drew forth five starters, viz., Tuna (scr), Malua (lmin), Warehou (lmin), Rata (12min), Nikau (15min). Malua made a poor beginning. Tuna jumped into the lead, and. was never ousted from her advantage. She completed the course two minutes ahead of Warehou. Away behind came Rata and Nikau in that order, the third place, however, going to the latter on her handicap. It wa3 the second series of races in the 16ft event. The following competed : Harrier (scr), Rambler (2min). Irex (4min), Una (Ymin), Maro'o (Bmin), Colleen Omin), and Rival (9 mm). From the start the race resolved itself into a drifting match. When the boats sailed out of the doldrums Rambler wont to the front, followed by Irex. This order was maintained to the finish, with Maroro a few f.econds r.head of Unti in the third »6sition.
