BIGAMY CASE.
[BT TKtEGRArn. — KRESS ASSOCIATION.] , AUCKLAND, This Day. ' Thomas Joseph Ladd was charged in the Police Court with having committed bigamy and having made a false declaration to the registrar that he was a bachelor. The police stated that accused was married in Sydney in 1894, . and deserted his wife, but continued to send her money. On 23rd September he ,was married to Miss Christina Pepper, at Warkworth. Cross-examined, Miss Pepper said she might have had a suspicion of a previous marriage, but did not know for certain. She had insisted that accused should marry her, and he had been unwilling to do so. Some little time after marrying her, Ladd told her he had a wife in Sydney. She would have "done as she did if she had known Ladd was married, and intended to go back to him. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence.
