A decreo nisi, to be made absolute at the end. of three months, was to-day granted by Mr. Justice Chapman in the case in which David \Vm. A motor-cyclist collided with a tram car in Tinakori-road, near the Botanical Gardens, this morning, and got a severe shaking. A gentleman who witnessed the accident slates that the man would have been seriously injured if the motorman had not promptly applied the emergency brake. "Lost, stolen, or strayed, a beautiful blue-eyed maid," was a guest at the watchhouse, Lambton-quay Police Station, for lunch to-day. With the ingenuous age of a three-year-old, and her nose just above the edge, sho sat in state at a table, the only guest, munching her bread and jam, without any embarrassment at the passers in and out. The llaxciv hair was accompanied, as usual, by a pair of blue and wondering eyes, that v, andered through the office while their owner fed the inner small girl. The young lady had not received any invitation, but a large constable had picked her up wandering about on Thorndon-quay to-day, admiring the sights, and not bothering at all about home. Under his surveillance the small prisoner — the charge will probably be of having been unlawfully at large — was escorted to the watchhouse ,- and the arresting policeman in his report (not yet sent in) stated that there was little or no resistance. Meantime, a wee girl, three years of age or thereabouts, with flaxen hair and light blue eyes, and clad in a pale pink dress and straw hat, negligently arranged, is awaiting a claimant. The Kotuku petroleum bore is getting into softer country (writes the Greymouth correspondent of the Otago Daily Times). At a little under 400 ft the gas increased rapidly, until at about 420H it became so strong that the pressure threw out the water in the bore required for the "water flush system,' i which is now being used. It also developed a heavy gas pressure inside the hollow rods, and burst the rubber hose connect- . ing the hydraulic pump with the drill stem, causing a suspension of boring for the time being. There is no water in this bed, as the water is successfully out off above. The hole is" a dry one so far, with the exception of a little oil, sand, and debris being thrown up at intervals. Boring will be resumed when the gas pressure has eased down. Meanwhile other work is being proceeded with. Messrs.
