THE ROYAL PICTURES.

There is no slackening of the grip the healthy fascination of the moving | picture vogue holds on patrons at His i Majesty's Theatre. All available space j wa3 occupied last evening for the week- j ly change of programme, and the new series is wojrthy of the greatest appreciation. One of the best films describes the work done by the ambulance dogs attached to the French Foreign Legion in Algiers. Two clever canines are specially interesting in their successful management of a stretcher which is under their charge. Their unhesitating i obedience is military, and their sensible avoidance of a party of the enemy is a I striking instance of animal reasoning. A_ very fine scenic effect is given in the pictures describing the Zambesi and the Victoria Falls. The spray from the huge cataract acts as a prism, and the decomposed rays of the sun are distinctly shown in % rainbow spanning the falls. "Father's Holiday" is of intensely amusing character. The poor holiday-maker is handicapped with a complete outfit, from a tent downwards, and the uselessness of and hindrance aftorded by his impedimenta evoke much hilarity among the audience. Scenes in Brittany, the Channel Islands, and the Kentish hop gardens are instructive pictures, and bring the actual life of the Antipodes to our. doors. The same programme will be repeated this evening, and a matmee will be held on Saturday afternoon.
