KILBIRNIE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

A "social," to celebrate the opening of the church, was held last evening. Despite the wet weather, there was a large gathering of the congregation and friends from all parts of the city and district. The pastor, Rev. W. Douglas, M.A., occupied the chair, and expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present. With him on the platform were the Revs. J. K. Elliott, 8.A., and W. Comrie, both of whom, in felicitating minister and people on the happy occasion of their gathering, gave humorous speeches. At the close of Mr. Elliott's address, he, on behalf of Mr. Ban, one of the elders of Kent-terrace Church, presented a Communion service stand., as a token of Mr. Barr's regard for the minister, and of his interest in the work of the charge throughout the whole district. Following was the musical programme : — Anthem, choir ; recitation, Miss Althea Martyn , song (encored), Miss Mina Caldow ; song, Mr. Johnstone ; mandolin solo (encored), Mrs. Peddie ; song, Mrs. Weller ; recitation, Miss Macdonald ; song, Mr. Scott , song, Mr. Aitken. The accompanists .were Mrs. M'Whannel, Misses Evans and Douglas, and Mr. Weller. Supper, social chat, the Doxology, «nid Benediction brought a bright gathering to a close.
