At the conclusion of the sitting of the District Court at Judge Haselden, addressing the DeputyAssignee, said he had read newspaper reports that at the last sitting of the District Court in Ashburton, nine discharges from baukruptcy had been granted. He thought it only right that such misstatements should be contra dieted, as they might tend to injure the commercial standing of the county throughout the Dominion. Reference to the minute-book showed that at the last sitting of the court nine orders had been granted in bankrupt estates of long standing, simply tv release the Assignee.
