£by telxgbapb. — pbess association J AUCKLAND, This Day. A petition, signed by 78 petitioners, was filed within 35 minutes of the time of closing yesterday, asking that the Mount Eden poll be voided. Seventeen grounds aro stated, the chief being an objection to the No-2ieeiiS3 demonstration on the Saturday preceding the election ; that there having been a 25 per cent, increase in the population, there should have been a fourth lino "that licenses be increased," on the ballot paper ; that the district was not properly gazetted ; that the voting compartments at the booths were insufficient, in consequence of which secrecy could not be observed ; that voters conversed within the booths; that one polling booth opened late and another closed early ; that wrong voting papers were issued at two booths, and that persons who, it is alleged, received such were allowed to vote again.
