STOPPING IMPROVEMENTS IN HOTELS.
[BT XSIKQRATH. — PtiESS ASSOCIATION.! AUCKLAND, 25th November. One of. the first effects o"f the increase in the No-license vote at the recent poll is th^t it has made owners of hotel property hesitate about incurring any expenditure on buildings in the face of the fact that in another three years' time it is impossible to say what the result of the people's vote will be. It is now stated that as a matter of actual fact already oiders for works on various premises amounting in the aggregate to £25,000 have been cancelled, and as a representative of the "trade" said, when interrogated by a reporter to-day, "You may be certain that for I the next three years asilittle money will be expended upon hotel property as possible, because you must admit that, looking at the recent vote, there is Dy I no means a certainty of tenure." I Another gentleman, when spoken to, said that he knew of one country hotel where the owner had intended to expend £1000, but it had now decided to let the house go as it is, and not increase the accommodation on account of I the recent vote.
