PERSONAL MATTERS.
Mr. Kixkpatrick, Nelson, returned by the Warrimoo from Sydney yesterday. Hon. J. M'Gowan "(Minister for Mines) arrived in Wellington from Auckland last night. Miss Miua Caldow left for Wanganui this mommg to take part in the Wanganui Liedertafel's concert to-morrow night. Mr. Schloss (J. L. Lennard and Co.), who has been visiting Europe, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Warximoo from Sydney. Mr. A. A. S. Danby, the Immigration Officer, who went to Dunedin to meet the assisted passengers by the Papanui, returned to Wellington this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Carey Hill, of Christchurch, who have been on a world-tour, leave for Lyttelton this evening. They came out by way of Canada and Japan. Mr. James Gilberd, of Napier, secretary of the Wellington United Fire Brigades' Association, and Mrs. Gilberd, returned yesterday from a visit to the Old Country. Mr. D. M'Lareu, M.P. for Wellingjon East, and general secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union, will leave, for Sydney shortly on business connected with that organisation. Mr. D. Robertson, Secretary to the General Post Office, and Mrs. Robertson will leave in a few weeks on a six wionths' visit to the Old Country. They will travel via Canada, and subsequently visit Leipsic, where their son, a Rhodes Scholar, is studying. The Hon. VV. Hall-Jones leaves for a farewell visit to Timaru this evening. He will return on Sunday. His office as High Commissioner commences on Monday, and he will leave for London by the Corinthic on Thursday. Rev. C. H. Laws, of Trinity Church, Dunedin, who returned from England by the Warrimoo from Sydney yesterday, spent some time in Palestine and Egypt on the way home. He studied the great social questions in England, and particularly those of women's suffrage and the Licensing Bill. There was, he found, a growing public opinion "n favour of reform in the matter of granting women electoral rights, and in restricting the liquor trade.
