A racing four attached to the Civil Service Rowing Club happened to be passing under th« bridge at the time, and, noticing the man struggling in the water, one of the members of the crew pluckily went overboard to his rescue. The oarsman managed to keep the drowning man's head above water till two constables, who witnessed the incident from the river bank, brought the police boatlo the assistance of rescued and reficuer. The former was suffering from the effects of drink, and was taken to the Melbourne Hospital, where he gave the name of George Edwards.
