THE TALISMAN MINE.
The local committee of tho Talisman mine has received information that the two Cameron sinking pumps ordered in New York were forwarded to Liverpool, and were to be sent on to Auckland by the first direct steamer leaving after 16th October. This means that the pumps should be ready for work by the middle of December at latest.
Elections come and go, but tho Statue remains, and still has a charm at noon for the lovers of light or heavy verbal refreshment. The customary oracle gave a message to the masses to-day about the need for learning the arts and crafts of war to qualify themselves for defending New Zealand, and he promised to re-appear at the Statue and continue his work of educating the people. The local Labour trio, Messrs. D. M'Laren, W. T. Young, and C. H. Chapman, also took the steps, at the invitation of "Falstaff," who exclaimed, "Here's your coming Premier," when the winner of the Wellington East seat faced the assembly. He gave a speech similar to his utterance' of last night, and finished by calling for cheers for his opponent (Mr. A. R. Atkinson), his first lieutenant (Mr. Williams), and the waterside workers. Mr. M'Lanen w»s also heartily cheered before he departed, and then the crowd lent its ears to "Falstaff." The results of tho polling yesterday came through with marvellous promptitude — speaking volumes for the organisation of the electoral staff. The work of quickly conveying tho news to the public was expedited in every way by the Prime Minister, to whom our acknowledgments are due, also to the private secretaries of Ministers, Mr. Mansfield (chief electoral officer), the local officetelephone staff, Mr. Tovey (Telegraph Department), and the returning officers — j Messrs. A. H: Holmes, P. Cording, J. C. LMbudde, aad, J. ,W A galmoja,
