OPEN BRISK AT AN ADVANCE. Bj Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received November 25, 5 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, 24th November. The wool sales opened brisk, at from 5 to 15 per cent, advance. SYDNEY SALES. (Received November 25, 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. At the wool sales the demand was very strong at tho highest point of the recent improvement. Merinos, lambs, sold to 16d ; supef combings,- 15|d ; crossbreds, 12|d — a re'r cord for the season. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London agents, Messrs: Sandorson, Murray and Co., dated 24tn November : — "The sales have opened with animation. There is a large attendance of buyers and brisk competition. Merino has advanced G to 10 par cent., medium scoured showing the greatest advance. Crossbred has advanced 10 to 15 per cent., but there is only a poor selection offering." < The United Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., has received the following cable from their London agents, under date 24th November : — "The sixth series of wool sales opened to-day with excellent' competition, and a very large attendance of buyers, including American. As compared with the closing rates of last sales, all descriptions of crossbred wool show a marked advance of from 10 to 15 per cent." Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., nave received the following cable from their agents in London, the National Mortgage and Agency Co. of New Zealand, Ltd., dated 24tb November, 1908 : — "The wool sales opened to-day. There was a large attendance of buyers. As compared with the closing rates of the September sales, merinos and fine crossbreds advanced 7£ per cent., medium crossbreds 10 per cent, coarse crossbreds 15 per cent., and slipe crossbreds 10 per oant." „ Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from their London house, dated the 24th instant : — "The wool sales have opened, and there is a large attendance of buyers. Competition is very animated, and there is a fair selection. As compared with tho closing rates of the September series, prices have advanced as under : — Greasy merinos, 7£ per cent. ; scoured merinos, 5 to 7^ per cent. ; greasy and scoured crossbreds, 10 to 15 per oent." f The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports : We have received the * following cable- , gram from our London house, under yesterday's date :—"Woo: — "Wool — Market opened strong for all sorts. As compared with last sales' closing rates, prices are about 5 to 7£ per cent, higher for merino, and about 10 per cent, "to 15 per cent, higher for crossbred. Bidding very active." Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following cable from London, under to-day's dat& : — "The sales have opened with a large attendance of buyers. There is good competition and heavy buying by all branches of the trade. There is a good demand for all kinds of crossbred wool, for which prices are Id to lid per lb higher thaji the closing rates of last sales. The demand is active for all slipe wools, which have advanced 7£ to 10 per cent. Merino is in good demand, and has advanced 5 to 7£ per oent. Prospects generally are brighter." The advance in quoted above was anticipated at last Wellington sales, SPIRITED COMPETITION IN AUCKLAND. [»T TSUEOBAHU — MtBSS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland wool sales opened this morning, when 4614 bales were offered. Competition was very spirited, and very few lots were passed. Prices obtained for the wool offered by the first three firms were a decided advance on the. Wellington and Christehurcb figures, and only a farthing to a halfpenny leasthan at the opening sales last year. Fine, crossbreds sold to lid, and averaged^ about 7d; bellies and pieces, 3d to 4d.. There was' very keen competition for ■ bright showing fleeces, but the demand, for dingy wool was weak.
