Mr. J. C. Arbuckle, Returning Officer for South Wellington, completed the scrutiny of the local option ballot papers late on Saturday afternoon. The official return is as follows : — Continuance 2241 Reduction .... 3466 No-license ... ... ... 4054 Informal 141 Valid voters 6381 No-license has accordingly been carried by 225 votes. OTAKI REMAINS UNALTERED. The following resolntion was passed by the meeting : — "That this meeting of ministers and laymen representing the Methodist Church in the city and suburbs of Wellington desires to express its thankfulness to Almighty God x for the great advance in temperance sentiment throughout the Dominion, as evidenced in the largely-increased No-license vote at the recent polls."
