Mr. J. C. Arbuckle, Returning Officer for South Wellington, completed the scrutiny of the local option ballot papers late on Saturday afternoon. TIMARU, 21st November, Continuance 2952 Reduction ■.„ 2758 No-license 3565 Valid Votes ... ... -... 6477 In connection with the annual conferjence of the Methodist Church of Australasia hi New Zealand, which meets in Wellington towards the end of February next., a largely-attended meeting of the committee of arrangements was held ra Wesley Church vestry last week. The following resolntion was passed by the meeting : — "That this meeting of ministers and laymen representing the Methodist Church in the city and suburbs of Wellington desires to express its thankfulness to Almighty God x for the great advance in temperance sentiment throughout the Dominion, as evidenced in the largely-increased No-license vote at the recent polls."
