OBITUARY.
A RANOITIKEI SETTLER. [BY. TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] MAR-TON, This Day. The death occurred yesterday, after a short illness, of Mr. Alexander Y. M'Beth, J.P., a farmer residing near Ma-rton. The deceased was born in Wellington in 1844, his parents having arrived in New Zealand in 1840. His father carried on an extensive wholesale and retail business in Wellington until 1854, when ho sold out, taking up land in Rangitikei. lie was the first to introduce sheep to this district. Deceased joined tho volunteers, serving in Captain Wilcock's company during the Maori disturbances. He took an active part in politics, being a member till recently of tho Rangitikei and Manawatu Licensing Benches and president of the Liberal Association League. He leaves a wife and three daughters.
