The chairman of the National Insurance Company, when acknowledging a vote of thanks to the staff and directors last week, remarked that Government taxes had increased in the past year by between £300 and £400. Included in this amount was the beginning of the levy to support the fire brigades. This would be a very heavy tax. Ho. said : — "I am very much afraid the insurance companies doing business in New Zealand will be compelled in the near future to rake their rates to cover this new demand." ,
