The speaker understood; that Mr. Hatt-Jones was to leave on 3rd! December, and he suggested Ist Deoem-. ber as a suitable date for the function., He recommended that a committee: •should be appointed comprising the Mayor of the city, and Mayors of adjacent .boroughs, members of the Legislative Councu and tho House of Representatives resident in and about Wel-t lington, members of the City Council, and other prominent 'citizens. Th« Hon. C. M. Lttk«, in seconding^ the motion, remarked that a present--" tion, possibly an illuminated address, should figure in.the programme. Mr. T'ewsley declared that , he would' rather see a banquet or luncheon during the day. The Rev. Frank Isitt said he thought* that a social evening would appeal tat a wide circle of people. Mr. Macdonald remarked ho saw no^ reason why a city luncheon should not" be given as well as a social evening. The motion for the- 6ocial evening waa passed, and an executive committee waa appointed, consisting of the Mayor (tho Hon. T. W. Hislop), th© Hon. T. K. Mocdonald, Mr. J. G. Ha-rkness, Mr. E. J. Hill, and two honorary secretaries (Mr. J. A. Palmer, town clerk, and Mr. Salter).
