Mr. John Rockefeller, of Standard Oil fame, it is reported (the Chronicle states) we^t to visit a farm in Ohio on wnich he was brought up, and which was associated with many tender memories. The farm has long since passed out of the nands of nis family, and is now owned by a German, who has a large family. The present occupant cordially received the millionaire, and took him all over the place, making him welcome of his house, whero he had a cup of tea with the farmer and his wiie. Mr. Rockefeller asked the German how he was getting on, and was pained to learn that ho was struggling against adverse fortuno, and was having a hard fight to raise money enough to pay off a long-standing mortgage of £200. Tho millionaire listened most sympathetically, and when he departed took out his pocliet-book and handed the German a one-dollar bill (4s), at the same time wishing him every success in paying off the mortsace-
