Sir John Wolf e-Barry, Chairman of the Eastern Extension Cable Company, in reply to Mr. Henniker Heaton, states that Lord Balfour of Burleigh was not connected with any cable company until 1905. Mr. Heaton, in a letter to The Times, stated that Lord Balfour of Burleigh chairman of the interdepartmental committee of 1902, which reported that the scheme for the inauguration of round-the-world penny-a-word cables was impracticable, is a director of several cable companies.
