BOXING.
NEXT WEEK'S TOURNAMENT. In the Opera House, on Tuesday next, the boxing match between W. J. Elliott arid J. Gosling will take place. Elliott has won many amateur honours in featherweight divisions, and he is now making his debut as a professional. Godfrey, whom he is to meet, is well known to all followers of the science, as a capablo and clever man who always boxes fairly. Four amateur heats are to be boxed as preliminaries to the main encounter : Leckie v. Devitt, Porter v. Kerr, P. Hale v. T. Bakar, and another pair, to be announced at a later date. A meeting of the Wellington Boxing Association was held last night, when Mr. M'Villy presided. There were also present Messrs. Bridge, Platts, Laurenson, Jay, Coffey, Taylor, and Laing. A request, by A. O'Grady, of Sydney, to bo matched against Elliott or any other boxer xip to 8.11 was declined, on account of tho lateness of the season. Tracey's application for a match is to be favourably considered, the committee being mindful of his proved drawing powers and boxing ability. Burns' application to be matched against the> winner of the Leckie-Devitt match was not efttertained, because of the lateness of the season. J. Browne's application for v, match is to bo considered next week. % v H was resolved to write J. Godfrey, of Auckland, that if possible a. match would be arranged between him and tlifc winner of the Gosling-ElHott match, probably for 22nd December. Officials foi the tourney on Tuesday next were appointed as follow: — Stage managers^ — Messrs. J. M. Laing and J. L. Day. Timekeepers — Messrs. A. Laurenson and J Ludwig. Official stewards—Messrs.
