HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The last meeting of the present mem* bers of the Hutt County Council was attended yesterday by Mr. W. Galloway (chairman) and Councillors Lynch, Edwards, Welch, vVakeharn, and Whiteman. The Chief Engineer of Roads advised that the £200 grant for the WaikanaeUpper Hutt-road could bo expended under ordinary conditions; and the sums official also forwarded authorities for the following Government grants : Phi]-lip-road, £100, Trentham Range-road, £150; Plimriierlon - Fahautanul - road, £200; Paraparaumu to Beach, £100; Thomas Creek Bridge, £150. In connection with these' grants the Gounty Inspector was instructed tb supply' the District Road Engineer with plans and specifications of the proposed works. The Treasury informed the counbil, in response to an enquiry, that special rates to be levied to provide interest on loans must be levied on the area directly benefited. The Plimmerton Road Board wrote in regard to merging tho road district in the county, and after discussion it was resolved to agree to the proposal. The chairman pointed out that the county, was at present losing £600 per annum, which could be spent to the better advantage of tl}e district by the larger, body. Permission was given to Mr. W. H. Didsbury to fence in a part of Tuiroad, Day's Bay, in order to preserve a piece of bush. Mrs. H. C. Bishop " complained of the removal of bushes and spoil from the banks of the Akatarawa River, causing an encroachment on her property, for which she said she would hold the council responsible. The engineer was directed to enquire into the matter. Accounts amounting to '£654 12s ltd were passed for payment.
