HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS. Monday next, being the Kiug's Birthday, will be observed in Wellington as a close holiday, and given fine weather conditions the pleasure-seekers of the Empire City have no cause to cavi\ at the attractions provided for their entortainment. The popular water excursion will no doubt attract many people to Day's Bay, whore special arrangements have been made for the entertainment of picnic parties. In addition, the children are particularly invited to go and see the .monkeys and ride the donkeys, and otherwise \o disport themselves at. the water-chute and side-sho-wa. Steamers will ply across the harbour at frequent intervals, and also to Seatoun and Karaka Bay. Wonderland will be open all day on Monday, and the whole of the sideshows will be in operation. It is announced that hot water will be supplied free to all picnio parties. In the evening v Prof esspr Bickerton, of Christchurch, will give a fireworks display that is guaranteed to surpass any display ever given. Frequent cars will run from Courtenay-place right through the day and evening. At the Lower Hutt the Bellevue Gardens will no doubt attract many people in search of a happy holiday. A string band will be in attendance to provide music all day. The Port Nicholson Yacht Club opens its season on Monday by an excursion to Somes Island. Yachts and launches will leave the wharf at 10.45 a.m., and the Duco will > leave the Ferry Wharf at 11 a.m., returning from the island at 5 p.m. Particulars will be found in our advertising columns. Holiday-makers wishing to travel further afield will, find in our advertising columns full details of the excursions which have been arranged by the Government Railways Department und the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company over Iheir respective lines. A claim for £10 16s 5d was brought befors Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., yesterday morning, by E. Feist and Co., storekeepers, against T. M. Smith, canvasser, for goods sold nnd delivered. The defence was,' v that Smith did not authorise his wife to open an account, that the goods were not necessaries, and that the defendant did not ratify any contract. His Worship reserved his decision. As a result of the sale of work at St. James's Presbyterian Church, Newtown, £130 wi)l be placed to the credit of the Church Debt Extinction Fimd.
