The 1 Hon. J. A. Millar returns to Wellington to-morrow. There is no member of the Government in town today Mr. and Mrs William Allan, of Wellington, who have been on a world's tour, wpre to leave Sydney for this port this afternoon. The Council of Defence will bo represented at the Manawatu Military Tournament at Palmerston North on Monday, by Colonel Robin and Colonel Collins. Colone], Bauchop, C.M.G., officer commanding the Wellington district, and Captain T. W. M'Donald, U.A.A.G., will attend the military tournament at Palmerston North on Monday, King's Birthday. Mr. W. G. Rains, who was at one time one of the best-known stevedores in Wellington, died at Pahiatua last Thuisday. He was for over a quarter of a century in the service of the New Zealand Shipping Company. , The Attorney-General (the Hon, Dr. Findlay), accompanied by Mrs. Findlay, proceeded to Christchurch by last night's steamer. Dr. Findlay will represent the Government at the banquet to be held in Christchurch on King's Bithday. He intends to return to Wellington on Wednesday* morning. Mr. J. P., Luke, of the District Hospital Board, went to Otaki to-day on a visit of inspection to the Otaki 'Hospital and Sanatorium. Mr. Luke intends consulting with Dr. Huthwaite, medical lofficer, as to tho best means of meeting the 1 extra requirements in connection, with the institution. Yesterday the present members of the Hutt County Council met for the last time, and the chairman (Mr. W. Galloway) took the opportunity to thank members for the pleasant manner in which they had assisted him in conducting the business. He also referred in appreciative terms to the way in which the council's j staff had done its wort All the councillors paid a similar tribute to the staff. Councillor Welch also congratulated the chairman on the very capable manner in which he had filled the position, and expressed the hope that Mr. Galloway would be returned at the electiok
