The full list of tenders for erection of the municipal abattoirs was as follows :—: — Accepted — Mace and Nicholson, £7635 Declined — Meyer and Ulingworth (£7984), Trevor and Sons (£8858), Campbell and Burke (£8906 13s 6d), W. L. Thompson (£8950), A. H. Harbottle (£9370). The tenders received for the erection of public conveniences were : — Mace and Nicholson (accepted), £1397. The declined tenders weie those of Adams and Smart (£1472 15s), M'Lean and Graham (£1458), W. H. Bennett (£1482), John Moffat (£1614 7s 6d), Jorgensen and Johan (£1705 15s sd), R. Wakelyn and Son (£1574 19s 6d), A. H. Harbottle (£1542 10s). The tenders received for the alterations and additions to Thorndon Fire Brigade Station were all tog high. The specifications subsequently were modified, and the lowest tenderer on the original basis (T. J. Townsend) was given the work, at £900.
