TELEGRAMS.

RIVALS, NOT ENEMIES. [Bl TItBGBAPH. — SPECIAL TO THE POST.] AUCKLAND, This Day. In an article on the opening of the Main Trunk line, the Herald says : "Auckland and Wellington are natural rivals, but are in no way enemies. Both seek the trade of the debatable country lying midway between them, and both are endeavouring by every legitimate means to secure it. We think that if our merchants are as shrewd and capable as their Wellington brethren the natural and artificial advantages of Auckland are sufficiently great .to give us the lion's share of any debatable trade."
