HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society is affiliated with the London Horticultural Society, and a lecture on the latter body was delivered last evening by Mr. T. Waugh. Tho lecturer, who treated his subject in an interesting manner, dealt with the Tips and downs, and finally the matured success of the London Society since its inception in 1804. Mr. Waugh has more than a passing interest in the society's well-being, having at one time beeu a joint' foreman' in the society's experimental gardens in London. Mr. G. A. Chapman presided over a good attendance, and at the conclusion Mr. Waugh was heartily thanked for his address. The meeting of tho Hutt Biver Board convened for last evening lapsed for want of a quorum. The Tramways ; Committee met last evening. The business of the meeting will come up before both the Petone and Hutt Councils in the form of a report, ' Members of the Hutt Valley Social and Athletic Club have presented their honorary instructor (Mr. B. H. Parker) with" a handsome dressing-case ■ and a salad bowl and plate, to mark their appreciation of his work. The honorary pianistes, Misses Hamilton, M'Kain, and Jenness, also received .presentations.
