SEDITION IN INDIA.
LITERATURE SENT BACK TO GERMANY. By Telegraph.— Pre*s AEsjciation.—Copyritilit. CALCUTTA, 2nd November. The authorities in Calcutta seized and sent back to Geimany a case containing copies of a seditious picture. The newspaper Pioneer suggests asking France to prevent the despatch _ seditious literature to Chandernagore, whence it is transmitted to Bengal. Chandernagore '(" City of Sandalwood ") is a French settlement in British India, 20 miles north of Fort William, on the rigjht bank of the Hooghly River. Early in the year an attempt was. made on tho life ot M. Tardivel, the Mayor of Chandernagore, a bomb being used.
