ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS. In our advertisement columns appears an announcement that the above examinations will bt held under the honorary supervision ol Mr. Richardson, A.1.A., F.F.A., Commissioner of the Government Insurance Department, at his office, Wellington, from Monday, 19tb April, to^ Saturday, 24th April, 1909, inclusive. The examinations are four in number, and the subjects under the revised rules and syllabus /are as follow : — Part I.— Arithmetic and algebra, logarithms, theory of probabilities, tne calculus of finite difierences, ' elementary differential and integral calculus, compound interest and annuities-certain. Part 11.-— Life contingencies, including annuities and assurances, life tables, and monetary tables, the classification of policies for valuation, book-keeping the methods of the Bank of England, British Stock Exchange securities. Part lll.— Mortality, sickness, accident, and other similar statistics and cables deduced therefrom, the valuation of life assurance companies, distribution of surplus, office rates of premium for assurances and annuities, under-average lives, hazardous" occupations, and residence in unhealthy climates. Part IV.— The law of contract, and of real and personal property, life assurance and employers' liability contracts, rates of contribution for Friendly Societies and pension funds, life assurance accounts, finance and the foreign exchanges, the London money market, life assurance investments, life interests and reversions, and surrender of policies. Candidates for the first examination must produce some evidence of education such as a matriculation examination certificate.
