OUTRBEAKS OF FIRE.
BOARDINGHOUSE DESTROYED AT KILBIRNIE. An outbreak of fire yesterday morning at Kilbirnie destroyed the Geisiha tea-rooms and ah adjoining residence at 'the corner of Seatoun-road and Courte-sy-street. Smoke awakened the inmates of the boardinghouse about half-past six o'clock in the morning. The sitting-room was found' to be ablaze. A stiff southerly breeze fanned the flames, which soon enveloped the whole building, containing eighteen rooms. There was no hope of saving the boardinghouse when the brigade arrived, but strenuous efforts prevented serious damage to an unoccupied shop and dwelling oi six rooms adjacent. The motor engine was present from the central station, a reel was taken from the Newtown branch, and the Kilbirnio volunteer brigade with its reel was assisted by members of the local branch of the Wellington firepolice. / The block of buildings destroyed was owned by Mr. John. Phillips. The Gpisha was insured in the office of the Liverpool, London, and Globe for £1000, the adjoining residence, occupied by Mr. T. Jackson, for £500 in the Commercial Union, and the third house in the Liverpool, London, and Globe for £500. The contents of Che buildings were not separately insured. OTHER FIRES. About ten minutes to four o'clock on Saturday afternoon a fire broke out at No. 44, Wordsworth-street, in a twostoried houso occupied by Mrs. Anna Flynn, and owned by Mr. Patrick Dwyer. The contents of a back bedroom on the first floor were seriously damaged by fire, and several of the other rooms suffered from smoke and water. The central brigade arrived quickly with the motor engine, and managed to save the rest of the house. The contents of the house were not ineured, but the New Zealand Insurance Company has a rifek of £575 on the house. There was an outbreak of fire about 2 o'clock this morning in a two-storied brick dwelling house, No. 15, Dixonstreet. The brigade arrived in time to prevent serious damage. Though still ' furnished, it had been unoccupied for about a week. The origin of the fire is, unknown.
