DEEP-SEA ANGLERS.
A wet Saturday night did not promise well for the' plans of the Wellington Seep-sea, Angling Club for a fishing expedition in the Duco to Palliser Bay on Sunday. It was understood that nothing short of an Antarctic gale would stop the enthusiastic (.oilers of the deep. Sunday morning came bright and clear after the night's rain, but singing with a lively southerly gale sweeping the scud across the harbour. About fifty anglers dressed and provisioned for the day assembled on the wharf alongside the Duco and cogitated on the weather. The expedition had already been postponed, and a few were for facing the elements in the stout tug Duco. The great majority preferred discretion, thinking it doubtful whether the seas in the Strait would reasonably permit of pleasurable fishing. They decided to postpone the expedition as impracticable. Some twenty enthusiastic souls, not to be baulked of a day with the baited line and the wily schnapper, journeyed to Paremata, and wpre well rewarded with lovely weather and good sport. Oil Makara beach and at Ohau Bay the sea was smooth and would have suited the Duco well.
