THE RUSSELL MISSION. A large meeting of men was held at the Y.AI.C.A. gymnasium yesterday, when Rev. D. Russell, of South Africa, delivered an addre&s. Mr. J. G. \V. Aitken was in the chair. The preacher based his address on the story of Herod and John the Baptist, drawing attention to the dignity and nobility of John and the weakness and seJf-in-dulgence of\ Herod. All men were of like passions with Herod,, and it was because of this that the mission which was to open hi Wellington was undertaken. Ihe object of the mission was to make men better, and in that work the preacher expressed the hope that the young men of the V.M.C.A. would •stand by him and do their best to attend all the meetings and to get others to do so. In connection with Mr. Russell's mislaion, meetings are to bo held every midday until Friday next in the Association's Assembly hall. Evening meetings will be held every day except Thursday and Friday. A ladies' meeting will be held at the V.M.C.A. hall at 3 to-morrow. At the annual meeting of the boys' department Mr. W. E. Hemery was presented with a framed photograph of committee work officers, of cricket and football groups, and uf the gymnasium. The following committee was elected f oi the year : — Religious : R.
