AMATEUR ATHLETICS. WELLINGTON CENTRE. ANNUAL MEETING.

The Wellington centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association held its annual meeting at the V.M.C.A. rooms last evening. JDi. A. K. Newman, president, occupied the chair, there being in attendance Messrs. E. A. Davvson, L. A. B. Teittenberg, A. M. Salek, J J. Callaghan, M. D. Mulcahy, F M'Gee, M. Burnett, A. W. Williamson, J. M. Hogben, W. Coffey, 0. £. Bridge, J. H. Pollock, R. W. M'Villy, A. Davies, W. F. Larkin, J. W. A. Heenan, and P. A. Guise. The annual report and balance sheet, particulars of which have already appeared in the Post, were adopted on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. B. W. M'Villy, who said he was pleased to say the centre was still on the upward grade Officers for the ensuing year were appointed as follow :— President, Dr. A. It. Newman; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. W. M'Villy, J. H. Pollock, and W. F. Larkin; hon. sec, Mr. B. A. Guise; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. Davies; handicappers, Messrs. W. F. Larkin, W. H. Pollock, and C. E. Bridge ; hon. auditor, Mr. H. Kitching. A.1.A.N.Z. ; hon. local officer, Mr. W. Coffey. With the object of placing the government of the Wellington centre in the hands of a council consisting of seven membei's, the secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. M. Hogben, of the Victoria College Club, moved to alter rule 4. He explained that it seemed to him that the Wellington centre should be controlled by a council similar to the body which governed football and other sports. At present the committee consisted of some twenty or more delegates — a most unwieldy body (a voice : "Question") — and not one half of the members attended the meetings. It was better to make it compulsory for nine members to attend a meeting than to make it optional for all the delegates to Stroll in as they did at present. (Cries of " Question.") The secretary seconded the motion pro forma, and explained that at present the centre consisted of 21 persons, inI eluding officers. The average attendance i was thirteen, only seven being required to form a quorum. On the motion of Mr. J. H. Pollock, the question was deferred for twelve months. Mr. B. A. Guise brought forward a motion to alter rule 7 by inserting the words c: for the period commencing 31st October and ending 30th April." This rule, he said, provided that any representative failing to attend three consecutive meetings of the centre, without first obtaining leave, should be deemed to have vacated his seat. He stated that in the second half of the season there was not much business doing, and it was hard for delegates to lose their seats because they did not attend some o£ the meetings His motion was to obviate the difficulty. On the question being put to tho nueting. the proposal was carried. The Wellington Club was given permission to hol'l an evening meeting on 18th November, ;md the Civil Service Club an evening meeting on 25th November. The Christ Church Young Men's Club, Wanganui, was granted permission to hold a meeting on Boxing Day, and the Wellington A. A Club to hold a meeting on 12th December. The question of the provincial championships came in for some discussion. Mr. Heenan moved that they be held at Wellington on New Year's Day, and that steps be taken to secure the Basin Reserve for ihat day. Mr. Burnett moved as an amendment that the opinion of the country clubs be taken before this question regarding tho championships was settled. The amendment was carried*
