Glenculloch, Stratagem, and Husbandman did a mile and a quarter m 2min 12 4-ssec, Glenculloch showing best. Prim did a brilliant mile in lmin 41 3-ssec, Flitaway beat Wtistleeroft. ov«r six furlongs in lmin 15 2-ssec, Gold Crest easily beat Gipby Belle over four furlongs in 49sec, Count Wiite covered half a mile in 50 l-ssec, Apa (alone) went a mile and a quarter in 2min 12secj Downfall, White Lie, ZMahuta, and Moloch were associated over a mile and a quarter, done in 2mm 11£ sec Downfall finished in front of ■ White Lie, registering a sterling gallop. ," Master Delaval, Zimmerman, and Grand - Slam went a mile and a half, finishing almost in a line. Master Delaval was full of running, and put up a most pleasing performance.
The Hon. W. Hall- Jones, who has been appointed as the successor to the Hon W. P. Reeves as the' High Commissioner in London, has booked his passage by the R.M.S. Corinthic, leaving Wellington on 3rd December. After Ihe Post went to press yesterday the Railway Appeal Board further con- - sidered the case of Thomas Bartosh, ■ railway pen-ter, Waipukurau, who had been dismissed from the service. The board reserved its decision. Mr. C. F. s Hill, stationmaster at Masterton, appealed against his position on the Classification List on the ground that the District Officer had withheld a certificate of promotion. There are about 7000 lawn tennis players in the Dominion, according to a speaker at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. On Sunday evening, at the Unitarian Free Church, Masonic Hall, Boulcottstreet, Dr. Tudor Jones will start a series of five addresses on " Five Great Messages on Knowledge and Life." The series will include Dr. Ray Lancaster on " The Kingdom of Man " ; Professor Kellogg on "Darwinism To-day; Dr. Edward Caird on " Knowledge and Idealism " ; Professor Munstorberg on " The Philosophy of Values " ; and Dr. Drummond on " Studies in Christian Doctrino." The Rev. W. Gray Dixon will occupy St. John's pulpit on Sunday. The Commercial Agency (Limited) advertises for sale a general store at Raetihi, on the Main Trunk Railway. Russell, the Y.M.CA. missioner from South Africa, at 7 p.m. The 240 scholars, choir, and largo orchestra have prepared for the singing of some of Mr. W. H. Jude's and Mr. H. E. Nicholls's festival music at all the services. The offertories will bo in aid of tho Sunday School. The church in Webb-street will be closed all day to-morrow in consequence of the services being held in tho Town Hall. A meeting of members of No. 2 Cooperative Building Society, Petone, will be held on Friday evening next to decide a loan appropriation by ballot. The V.M.C.A. advertises particulars of tho Rev. David Russell's Mission to Men. Mr. Russell is from South Africa, and is just concluding a two years' tour round the world. To-morrow afternoon, in the large V.M.C.A. gymnasium, a men's meeting will start the mission. During the week Mr. Russell will deliver his illustrated lecture, "From the Cape to Zambesi."
