At Newmarket, yesterday, the race for the chief event resulted as follows :—: — The Dewhurst. Plate, of 300 soys, for two-year-olds; colts 8.9, fillies 8.7; distance, seven furlongs. Mr. Fairies b o Bayardo, by Bay Ronald — Galicia, 9.5 (including 101b penalty) I Mr. W. Cooper's eh f Perola, by Persimmon — Edmee, 8.7 2 Mr. A. James's eh c by Persimmon— Lucina, 8.9 3 Bayardo has completely vindicated his right to be regarded as the best two-year-old in England, for he has followed up a decisive vic'ory in the Middle Park Plate by annexing the classical Dewhurst Plate, in which the son of Bay Ronald would have to carry the maximum penalty. In winning with 9.5, Bayardo has equalled the performance in this evant of such exceptional colts as St. Frusquin, Donovan, Rock Sand, and Friar's Balsam, which quartet succeeded, despite their 101b penalty. Bayardo's form has been so fat very consistent, and his winnings in stakes amount to close upon £10,000. Bayardo's sire, Bay Ronald, is by Hampton, the grandsire of the New Zealand Cup candidate Frisco.
