A feature of the social gathoring to be held in the Druids' Hall next lues- j day evening, in connection with the Wellington Dranch of the Liberal and Labour Federation of New Zealand, will be a presentation to the Hon. W. HallJones, Minister of Public Works, in recognition of the practical completion of the North Island Main Trunk Railway. All fyhe members of the Cabinet will be present. \ Mr. J. C. Arbuckle has been appointed Returning Officer for the Wellington j South Electoral District. Miss Ivey, teacher of cookery under the Technical Education Board, has tendered hra resignation of the office, it being her intention to leave New Zealand. The board accepted the resignation with regret, and gave authority to ' its secretary to make temporary arrangements for filling the vacancy, pending a permaaent appointment being made in a few months' time. Revs. G. H. Morse, A. H. Colville, and K. W. P. Teale arrived by the Turakina yesterday. They will take home mission work in the Auckland diocese. Lieutenant-General Frederick Walter, Kitchener, C.8., has been appointed Governor and Comman,<ler-ra-Chief of Bermuda, in succession' to LieutenantGeneral Wodehouse, C.8., C.M.G., who has been appointed to ihe command of the Northern Army in India. The new Governor of Bermuda is the brother of Lord Kitchener of Khartoum. He is 50 years ofi age, and has been in the army since 1876. He has seen a great deal of war service, and is at present on the staff commanding the Lahore district, India. Mr. H. H. Holmes, secretary to tho V.M.C.A., left Wellington for Sydney yesterday, to attend the Australasian V.M.C.A. Convention. Mr. A H. Tripe, who has been absent from Wellington for four months, during which time he has visited Rotorua, and various places in New South Wales and Queensland, returned to this city last night. .
