The Whangape was bound from Wellington to Suva, when her tail-shaft broke in the afternoon of the 18th. The weather being fine, Captain Chrip despatched a boat for Suva on Monday, 21st, by which time the Whangape was within eighty miles of Suva. The boat was picked up by the Atua, bound for Fiji, and the men taken into port. The Atua left at 11 this morning to tow the Whangape into Suva, and as the disabled boat had a spare shaft aboard, repairs should soon be effected.
