Taylor swam a quarter of a mile at the Shoreditch baths iv 5 minutes 27 3-5 seconds — a record for the baths. H. Taylor is the English mile, halfmile, quarter-mile, and 500 yards amateur champion. His best time for a quarter-mile in salt water is 4min 43sec. Last week D. Billington, who was for some time amateur distance champion of England, swam 440 yards at Liverpool in smin 28 4-ssec. Kieran, in 1905, covered 440 yards in smin 19sec. Frank Beaurepaire early this month swam a quarter-mile in smin 28 3-ssec — a Scottish record. y
