The Orangia Assembly unanimously voted ex-President Steyn a pension of a thousand pounds, and Mr. Reitz five hundred,. [Mr. Steyn was President from 1896 to 1900. Mr. Reitz was elected President in 1888. Both sat on the Supreme Court Bench before becoming President.] SETTLERS FOR NEW SOUTH WALES. (Received July 1, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, 30th June. Since Ist January the New South Wales agency in London granted assisted passages to 1356 settlers. There was no difficulty in securing farming settlers. NEW ZEALAND FRUIT. New Zealand, Tasmanian, Victorian, New South Wales, South Australian, and Westralian apples gained first awards in general competition at the Franco-Bri-tish Exhibition. ILLNESS OF A QUEEN. The Federal Government has lodged with the Industrial Court Registrar objection to the registration of the Postal Employees' Association. NEW SOUTH WALES REVENUE. SYDNEY, 30th June. The revenue of the State during the year ended to-day shows an increase of £568,000. [For 1906-07 the revenue totalled £13,392,436.] (Received July 1, 10.14 a.m.) SIDNEY, This Day. The revenue for the year amounted to £13,960,763. SURPLUS REVENUE. MELBOURNE, 30th June. The Commonwealth Treasury, instead of paying the June revenue to the State Governments, has paid it into the old age pension and coastal defence trust funds provided under the Surplus Revenue Act. RUSSIAN LOAN. ST. PETERSBURG, 30th June. The Duma has voted an internal loan of twenty millions sterling. [The Minister for Finance recently informed the Budget Committee of the Duma that new loans were inevitable. He emphasised the political indjspen*ability of tho construction, within the next fire years, of a second trans-Siberian line of the Amur railway.] INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES. SYDNEY, 30th June. Tho Arbitiation Act has ceased to exist, and Industrial Disputes Act takes its place, operating from tomorrow. [Under tho Act, boards will ba constituted to deal with industrial disputes. Th» boards will have special knowledge of tho trades the domandt of which they will ba asked to adjudicate apon. Tha Act, which has not met with the approval of some sections «f labour, provides for penalties in the event of strikes.]
