DAMAGE BY FIRE.
[By Telequaph.— Prbs3 Association.] HOKITIKA, This Day. The residence of Mr. T. W. Bruce, Mayor of Ross, wm destroyed! by fir© at 3 o'clock this morning. The water supply saved the adjoining places, but the residence was doomed when the outbreak was discovered, and only the; charred walls and hanging roof ara left. All the insurances aro unavailable, but the Atlas office held a risk of £150. EKETAHUNA, This Day. A nine-roomed house ownedi by Mr. H. E. Mowbray, Hukanui, was destroyed by fire on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Mowbray were away at Masterton at the time. A ladyhelp left the house at 2.30 to go to tho post office, and at 3.30 the house was seen in flames. The origin of the fire is a mystery. Railway hands saved a few effects. The insurances were £650 on the house and £350 on the furniture ia the London, Liverpool, and Globe. The house had only just been refitted' throughout.
