DUTCH PATROL AMBUSHED.
FIVE MEN" KILLED. BOMBARDMENT OF A TOWN. By Telegraph.— Preas Aesoalation.— Copyrightij j(Receivedi May 22, 10.20 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. News from the East states that natives ambuahed a Dutch patrol at Klungkung, Island of Bali, killed an officer and four men, and wounded twelve. A Dutch warship subsequently bombarded Klungkung. The attack is attributed to repression of the opium traffic. The Island of Bali, or Little Java, is situated east of Java. It is seventy miles long toy thirty-five miles in breswjtn. The people axe said to be adherents of Hinduism, and they have certainly some Hindu institutions and practices, such as the caste system and,' the burning religion. Tho executive and administrative authority for the whole of Dutch East India is in th© hands of a GovernorGeneral, assisted by a Council.
