V.M.C.A., JUNIOR DEPARTMENT.
At 'the opening meeting in the new building last night there was a. large gathering of the members (193) and many probpective members. Mr. W. C. Hemery, the chairman of the department,, presided, $nd an enthusiastic reception was tendered to the Rev. Chas. Porter, who had come to give the address on this auspicious occasion. The meeting started at 7.30 o'clock, and was brought to a close at 8 o'clock, when an adjournment was made to the gymnasium, where performances were given by a selected number of lads in physical drill and basket ball. There was present in the gymnasium a number of parents and visitors, and the president of tho association, Mr. J. G. W. Aitken. The visitors were interested in the new and invigorating game of basket ball. About 9.30 p.m. tho visitors took leave of the various officers of the department. The well-known firm of Alfred Levi, optician, has removed from its old quarters on Larnbton-quay to newly-erected j premises next the Bank of Australasia, Customhouse-quay.- The firm starts in { its new abode with a full new stock of optical goods, which pre'senl an attractive- appearance in. tho cupacious windows of tho establishment, and the fitting-room nl/tlTo lear is fitted up with all tho latest accessories for sight-test-ing. 'Mr. T. Morrison, tho manager, who has been with the firm since it started in 1892, has with him Mr. H. S.
