SUPREME COURT CASES.

[by telegraph.— press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, 21st May. At the Supremo Court to-day James Thomson, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for attempting to set fire to the Cafe de Paris Hotel building on 13th February. The Crown Prosecutor said there was grave reason to believe accused was 'Concerned in other attempts at fire-raising which occurred the same night. David Whytock, a middle-aged man, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for indecent assault. George Tit. Fleming was acquitted on a charge of perjury. AUCKLAND, 21st May. i Henry Herbert, a Maori, convicted of stealing a portmanteau, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment with hard iabour. Charles Edgecumbe and Daniel Munro, charged with aiding and abetting a man named Walker in forging and uttering a cheque, were found not guilty and discharged. Edward Kirby, a miner, at Waihi, found guilty of assaulting a, little girl, was remanded for sentence. The monthly "soe:ial" for the younger boys of the Boys' Institute was held in the institute last night under the direction of Mr. Chas. Dick.
