ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

AUCKLAND, 21st April.At Helensville Jonas Matthew White, aged eighteen years, and two others were cantering on horseback when the shaft of a trap penetrated White's side. Ho was driven back to Helensville, where ho died early this morning. At the inquest to-day a verdict of accidental death was brought in. MASTERTON, 21st April. Mr. A. Ken*, driver of the Homewood mail coach, sustained serious injuries on. Saturday a£ a result of the horses attached to the coach bolting. The coach collided with a verandah post, breaking ono of tho driver's legs. Ho was also thrown out and his skull slightly fractured* AUCKLAND, 21st April. Mr. Hastilow, chief engineer of tho, Victoria, was removed to the hospital this morning suffering from blood poisoning, and died threo hours after admission. The deceased visited the races at Ellerslie on Monday, with the chief steward, and returned to the ship apparently in good health. Ho was found m his cabin in a dying condition during tho night. Medical aid was summoned, but ho died without regaining consciousness. Tho captain of the Victoria was taken ill about the samo time, but recovered. Death is believed to be due to blood poisoning, but how it was caused is not yot known.

BLENHEIM, 21st April. At the inquest concerning the death of Mr. Scott Harding the verdict was that death resulted from a fall on ho footpath, and that no blanap was aLLaohable to anvon*.
