Hawkey, senior councillor, who has occupied a seat at the council table for the past fourteen years, has decided to contest the seat against Mr. Craigie, who has been Mayor for the past six years. KILLED BY A FALLING BEAM. GREYMOUTH, This DayThomas Davis, a carpenter, was killed by a beam falling on him at the goods shed. A FOOTBALL FATALITY. NELSON, This Day. Sydney Thomas, a six year old son of Thomas Bird, of Hope, died on Saturday of acute peritonitis, which it is alleged was caused by a kick while playing football a.t school a few days previously. At an inquest yesterday ay verdict was returned that death resulted from peritonitis caused by receiving an accidental kick while playing football, no blame being attachablb to anyone.
