NEW YORK TO PARIS.
A THAW IN ALASKA. By To'.ejjifph. — Press Association. — Copyright. (Received April 14, 8.53 a.m.) LONDON, 13th pril. Owing to a thaw in Alaska rendering the route impracticable, it has been eliminated from the New York to Paris motor race. Tho motorists are going to Vladivostock. The start of tho race was placed almost in tho dead of winter in order to bring tha racers across the Alaskan section of tho overland trip before the frosts should leave the ground and render progress for the cars, a practical impossibility. Of tho six cars starting, one was of American manufacture, and manned by Americans, the other contestants, French and German and Italian. Tho rape was hard enough at the outset. Thick snow, covered the country, and the racers havo had many days' of Polar experiences, sometimes having to get out of their cars and shovel patlis through the drifts to make progress pos•sible. No ono seems willing to hazard even a gness as to when the racing machines will arrive at Paris. There aro still thousands of miles of sea and land to bo crossed and difficulties that may prove insurmountable confront the drivers before they shall spin their big machines down the broad boulevards of the French capital.
