FAREWELL "SOCIAL."

A farewell "social" was tendered last evening in Trinity Methodist Schoolroom, Newtown, to Miss Nellie Hayes who is leaving this week to take up a new appointment as deaconess among the Maoris in the Taranaki district. Ihe liev. W. J. Williams presided over a gathering in which all departments of the church were represented. During the evening short addresses were given by Sister Isabel Sinclair, Messrs. T. Fathtrs, T. E. Paratei, in his address, expressed his appreciation of the devotion of Miss Hayes to .Christian woik among Maoii women and girls. Miss Cozens, on behalf of the Young Women's Bibls Class, -presented Miss Hayes with a.useful bag ,and the chairman, on belialf of ■ the Sunday School teachers and other friends, presented her with a travelling rug. Miss Hayes, in acknowledging the presentations, referred gratefully to^ hor eight years' association with Trinity Methodist Church, and tho encouragement she felt in entering upon her worn among the Maoris that she would b« followed by the sympathies and prayers of so many friends " In the course of the evening solos wert sung by the Misses E. Hayes, Johnston, and Sister Isabel Sihclair, Dr. TJrown and Messrs. C. E. Parata and J. Hayes, Miss E. Hayes officiating as pianist, Mr. B. Cooper also gave a recitation.
